The CICAE award
The Loft Film Fest is the only American festival member of the International Confederation of Art Houses (CICAE). The CICAE was founded in 1955 and represents a network of more than 4000 screens in 42 countries, along with 22 international film festivals with a shared mission of building audiences for independent international films. The CICAE award will be determined by a 3-member jury. This year’s jury includes:
HANNELE MARJAVAARA
Cinema Manager, Kino Tapiola, Espoo, Finland
Hannele Marjavaara has been running the beautiful arthouse cinema Kino Tapiola just outside Helsinki since its reopening in 2010. She was also the head programmer for Cinema Riviera in Helsinki from 2016–2019 in addition to working for Espoo Ciné International Film Festival and for film production companies. Hannele has been a member of the Board of Directors of CICAE (The International Confederation of Arthouse Cinemas) since 2019. Since 2021 she has also been a board member of Filmiaura, the organization behind the Finnish Film Awards.
BILL BERING
For the last 25 years Bill has been working with cinema in Greenland and Denmark. Bill is the Artistic Director of the Nuuk International Film Festival, which is focused on indigenous film and film makers from the Arctic area. Bill is a consultant to the filmmaker association in Greenland, helping set up the Greenlandic film workshop and promoting Greenland in different festival around the world. In 2020 Bill founded TulluT – a sales agency that focuses on indigenous films and filmmakers , seeing a gap between the indigenous film makers and the international film market.
BOB CAMPBELL
Bob Campbell is an award-winning playwright and critic/ journalist with a longstanding Tucson connection. He taught film history with Bob Keyworth at the University of Arizona drama department and at the AFI-funded Arizona Film Project. In 1972 he was co-founder with Nancy Sher of the New Loft Cinema and remained its program director for several years. Later he was a film and theater critic for The Arizona Daily and the Star-Ledger of New Jersey. In 1991 Bob became national film critic for the New York-based Newhouse News Syndicate. Bob has also provided film commentary for local PBS-TV, CNBC and AMC. He is a former member and chairman of the New York Film Critics Circle.
